The Helen LaFrance Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in February 2022 by Bruce Shelton to preserve this great American self-taught artist's legacy and to secure her place in the canon of American art. The foundation is dedicated to collecting, archiving and exhibiting the works of art of Helen LaFrance and other self-taught artists to further public knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts with programs that assist the education and development of local, national and international art communities.
Toward these ends, the foundation's projects include making the Helen LaFrance documentary available to the general public and by providing the documentary and art supplies to support, educate and inspire school children in underserved communities.
The foundation recognizes that art has the positive power to transform lives and help people.
The foundation will also create a catalogue of known art work by Helen LaFrance residing in public and private collections and, once the art has been authenticated, will enter a digitalized record on the foundation's website.
In its efforts to reach a wider audience, the foundation will collaborate with museums on publications and traveling catalogued shows of Helen LaFrance's work. Donations of art and monetary contributions to the foundation and the sale of that art work will help fund the foundation's projects.
